Fabric & size calculator
Pop in your pattern's stitch count and your fabric. You'll get the finished size, how much fabric to cut, a hoop size and roughly how much floss you need.
How the math works
Finished size = stitches ÷ fabric count. 60 stitches on 14 count aida is 60 ÷ 14 ≈ 4.3 inches. Linen and evenweave are usually stitched "over 2" threads, so 28 count behaves like 14 count.
Cut size adds your margin to every side. Three inches is comfortable for framing; two is plenty for ornaments.

Calculator FAQ
How do I work out the finished size of a cross stitch?
Divide the stitch count by the fabric count. 70 stitches on 14 count aida is 70 ÷ 14 = 5 inches. On linen or evenweave stitched over 2 threads, halve the count first (28 count over 2 behaves like 14).
How much extra fabric should I add?
Add 3 inches on every side for framing and hooping (2 inches is fine for ornaments and small finishes). The calculator adds your margin on all four sides.
How many skeins of floss do I need?
As a rule of thumb one DMC skein covers about 1,700 full cross stitches on 14 count with 2 strands. Fewer strands or finer fabric stretch a skein further. Always buy one extra of your main colors.
What hoop size should I use?
To display a finish in a hoop, choose a hoop at least an inch wider than the design. For stitching, any comfortable hoop works, as long as you move it as you go.
